Welcome from the Early Years Leader

Our Mission Statement ‘We follow in the footsteps of Jesus, to love, learn and grow’ is at the heart of everything we do at Guardian Angels’ RCPS. Our EYFS is rooted in Christian values and provides a secure foundation for future learning and development for later life.​

  • We believe that every child is unique. They are constantly learning and can grow to be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured. ​
  • We hope the children learn to be strong and independent as they build positive relationships with the staff and peers in their school.​
  • We provide a happy, safe, stimulating and welcoming environment to support the children in becoming proactive and independent learners.​
  • We have created a broad and balanced curriculum which has been tailored to the needs and interests of our children and the wider community. We understand that the children develop in different ways and at different rates and plan for this in our teaching and with strategically chosen resources in the provision areas in the learning environment

Our EYFS curriculum, enabling environments and play based learning allows children to develop confidence, independence, interpersonal skills, build resilience and become creative thinkers. We give them support that enables them to fulfil their potential putting emphasis on providing individual pathways based on the child’s stage of development. This is done through a balance of child-led and adult initiated learning. ​The children are encouraged to take ownership of their own learning as they ‘choose their own learning’ during continuous provision time each day.

Holidays

Please note that supervision fees will still be payable for Nursery children. The holiday pattern for EYFS is the same as the rest of school.

The EYFS School Day

Doors Open at 8.20am until 8:30am

  • Nursery and Reception 8:20am – 3.15pm
  • Lunchtime Nursery 11.30 – 12.30
  • Lunchtime Reception 11.30- 12:30

School Uniform

The children in EYFS wear a slightly different uniform to KS1 and KS2.  The uniform suits the curriculum needs for the younger children.  We do not permit summer dresses or playsuits in EYFS.  The children will not need a separate PE kit. Please label all items with your child’s name.  This includes shoes and wellington boots.

EYFS Uniform

  • White polo shirt
  • Navy blue round necked sweatshirt, cardigan or fleece with the Guardian Angels’ emblem on the left hand side. Jumpers are available from stockists, Monkhouse or Murray’s or Myclothing.com)
  • Navy leggings or jogging pants or shorts
  • Navy or black socks
  • Velcro black trainers (no laces or buckles)
  • Wellies to be kept in school
  • Spare clothes – to be kept on your child’s peg containing a change of pants, underwear and socks.

PE Uniform

  • The children in EYFS do not require a separate PE uniform.  The nature of their uniform means they are always suitably dressed for physical activities.

Jewellery No jewellery is be worn by the children in EYFS, this includes earrings and watches.

What Your Child Needs for School

  • Wellies – to remain in school/
  • Waterproof coat with hood
  • A spare set of clothes in case of accidents
  • School bag
  • Water bottle
  • Sunhat and sun cream in warm/hot weather
  • Hats and gloves in cold weather

Please ensure all items of clothing are labelled with your child’s name

Lunchtime in EYFS

Nursery

  • Children who attend a full day session in our Nursery will need to bring a packed lunch, unless they have requested a school lunch via school grid.
  • We are a NUT FREE SCHOOL and have children with severe nut allergies – please do not send in any snacks that contain nuts e.g. Nutella, Snickers, pesto etc.

 Reception

  • All Reception children are entitled to a free school lunch.
  • If your child is having a school dinner, please ensure you inform us if they have any allergies.  It would be helpful if they could practise using a knife and fork at home.
  • If your child is having a packed lunch, they will need a labelled lunch box, which will be kept in the classroom until lunchtime.

Preparing for School

Please encourage your child to become as independent as possible in these last few months before September as this will help the settling in process.

Ways in which to prepare your child:

*Please note, if your child cannot do all of the following, please do not worry, just let us know.

  • Going to the toilet, wiping themselves, flushing the toilet and washing/drying their hands independently
  • Putting coats on and taking them off – fastening zips and buttons
  • Recognising their own name
  • Singing Nursery Rhymes
  • Rhyming words
  • Reading/sharing books and discussing characters/setting/main events
  • Cutting skills
  • Capital Letters only at start of name
  • Encourage your child to walk to into school
  • Please talk about school in a positive way
  • Practise holding pens/pencils/crayons when mark-making
  • Taking turns when playing a game or with toys
  • Being able to use language to communicate their needs
