Our GIFT Team members are made of us children from Years 5 and 6 and they applied for this special role when they were in Year 4. They are easily identified in school by their special red jumpers.

The GIFT team have a vital role to play in enhancing the Religious Life of our school. They meet weekly to plan the Wednesday Word, liturgical events and ways to develop the faith life of Guardian Angels’.

Members of The GIFT team have a very important job to spread the Word of God throughout our school and the school community. It is their mission to interpret scripture so that children can better understand stories from the Bible and relate them to their own lives. The GIFT team help to lead prayer, prepare prayer areas, deliver collective worship and organise liturgical events.

Our Year 5 GIFT Team members are Poppy, Oscar, Elliot, Finlay and Joseph. Our Year 6 members are Nula, Grace and Ben.

The GIFT Team were commissioned in a special service led by Father Paul in church.

Eco-Schools are schools that take part in an international program designed to make education more environmentally friendly and action-oriented. Instead of just learning about environmental issues in class, students actively work on improving their school and community.

We create a pupil led environmental action plan where our team lead projects such as reducing waste, saving energy, or improving biodiversity around the school.

Our focus is on real-world topics which may include themes such as;

• Climate Change
• Waste & Recycling
• Water Conservation
• Energy Use
• Biodiversity

We make our work realistic for our pupils to achieve success including;

• Setting up recycling systems
• Creating school gardens or wildlife areas
• Reducing single-use plastics
• Running energy-saving campaigns

We include the whole-school and community partners.

We link learning to action in science, geography, and even maths so we can apply this in real life.

We earn a Green Flag award in recognition for meeting sustainability goals and showing long-term commitment.

We build lifelong habits & develop skills like teamwork, leadership, and environmental responsibility that carry into adulthood.

Roles and Responsibilities

· Chair – Leads the meeting and keeps discussions in order.
· Vice Chair – Supports the initiative led by the Chair and shares responsibilities.
· Secretary – Takes minutes of the meeting.

At Guardian Angels’ Roman Catholic Primary School, we recognise the importance of involving the people who matter in the development of the school.

Our Pupil Voice elections take place at the end of the school year, so we are ready and raring to begin in September. The team comprises of representatives from Years 3, 4, 5 and 6.

They are actively involved in improving the school. Past initiatives include becoming a healthy school, meeting curriculum leaders, the installation of the bike shed, improving play facilities and charity fund raising. They have also been involved in our UNICEF Rights Respecting Schools Award journey and were very proud when we achieved Bronze.

We are very proud of our team members, as they play a very important role in our school.

Every term, pupils in each class have the opportunity to take on more responsibility by taking of the role as a Sports Captain.

The captains are in charge of leading games, organising equipment, warm-ups and cool downs; any form of leadership role that the teacher asks pupils to model and lead!

Sports Captains wear a badge with pride so classmates can identify their peer as a leader.

We have recruited a dedicated team of Year 5 Play Leaders.

This very exciting role involves organising and modelling how to play games.
The team are responsible to organise equipment tidy away as well as ordering and replenishing resources.
They also ensure children feel happy and safe whilst playing.
These leaders wear a special badge so you can identify them easily.

The 2 hour training via Bury School Games is designed to give the pupils an understanding of what makes a good leader, what leadership qualities they may need, to build their confidence to deliver structured playground games and to understand the importance of safety through the S.T.E.P process, whilst always thinking about the key aspects of:

-Enjoyment
-Cooperation
-Opportunities/Inclusive
-Safety
-Instructions
-Responsibility

Lunchtime Games

Mr Kemp will be organising playtime games alongside our Year 5 Playleaders!
If you prefer some quiet time of reflection, please speak to Mrs Shaw or Mrs Leigh who will be happy to arrange space for mindfulness.

We encourage families to ditch the car when possible and walk, hop, skip or cycle to school!

With the help of our ambassadors, each day pupils will complete the ‘Travel to School’ tracker and if they commit to travelling sustainably once a week for a month, a badge will be awarded by them!

There is a different one for each month !

They champion the benefits to our health, the improved safety on our streets and environmental benefits.

All pupils are also taught Road Safety skills as part of our curriculum, bikeability and we have the bike shelter for any wheelies that pupils may bring to school.
